Our Protocol for Building a Well 💧

Before any work begins, the team identifies a strategic and accessible location. The choice is based on the presence of a shallow water table and the feasibility of installing a solid concrete structure.

A circular concrete wall is poured or assembled to form the base of the future well. This structural element ensures stability and protects the surrounding area from collapse.

Drilling is carried out inside the enclosure through progressive excavation down to approximately 7 meters. This step allows access to the local water table.

Depth is measured carefully as excavation progresses. The water is tested to ensure it is clear and safe for community use.

Soil and sediment are manually removed throughout the digging process. This keeps the space clear and facilitates progress toward the water table.

Once water is reached, a manual bucket system is installed. This simple and robust mechanism allows families to access water daily without the need for a pump or electricity.

The well is reinforced with a concrete crown around the opening. This finishing touch enhances safety and provides long-term protection of the water from external contamination.

Building a Well is One of the Best Forms of Sadaqa jariya

Building a Well: A Lasting Sadaqa Jariya

In Islamic tradition, constructing a well is considered one of the most meritorious forms of Sadaqa Jariya (continuous charity).

According to a hadith reported by Muslim, the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said:

“When the son of Adam dies, his deeds come to an end, except for three: ongoing charity (sadaqa jariya), beneficial knowledge, or a righteous child who prays for him.”

A well falls fully into this category of continuous charity: it provides beneficial, accessible, and sustainable water to local communities. Even after the donor passes away, the rewards continue as long as the community benefits from this vital resource.
